Web Sites - Applying Good Practice and Standards to Ensure Accessibility,
Usability and Inclusion.
Group: BCS Disability Group
Date: Tuesday 7th June 2005.
Time: 18.00 to 19.30
Location: BCS, 1st floor, 5 Southampton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2
Cost: FREE
The meeting will cover the general issues around the differences between
accessibility and usability, including a review of the various standards,
and will address the user v automated testing arguments? We will also have
a brief description of the role of GAWDS - The Guild of Accessible Website
Designers. Other topics to get an airing will include: the issues of how
difficult it is for someone who wants to make their site accessible to actually
do so - based on personal and anecdotal experiences - making the case that
it is not enough to run tests aimed at embarrassing big companies - there
needs to be clearer, simpler guidelines on how to do it. If you wish to
attend you are very welcome. Please notify Mandy Bauer mbauer@hq.bcs.org.uk at
BCS HQ by Friday 3rd June 2005 if you wish to attend, so that we can confirm
catering etc. Please advise her of any special requirements, e.g. access,
dietary etc.
