How are new uses of the internet transforming our lives and our society - for better or for worse?

Intelligent search engines, virtual communities, IP telephony and the popularisation of blogs, to name just a few, have broadened our horizons and opened up worlds of possibilities. On the other hand, spam, scams, viruses and email abuse are poisoning our lives and affecting our work every day.

Speakers

Jon Tullett

Jon Tullett began as a network specialist and software developer, and has been an IT journalist covering security, networking, telecommunications and enterprise IT for over a decade. As technology editor of SC Magazine, he oversees the magazine's global coverage of technology trends and products.

Lee Bryant

Lee Bryant is an on-line social communication specialist with a focus on knowledge development, and has a strong belief in the empowering potential of the Internet. He has been playing with words and computers since the age of 10. In 1996, he co-founded the online agency TMG with a focus on building online knowledge communities. In 2002, Lee and his team founded the company Headshift to focus on the emerging area of social software, and since then he has become a leading writer and practitioner in the field of augmented
online social interaction. Headshift's clients and pro bono partners include NHS organisations, local government, companies and NGOs.

Lee co-founded the social enterprise Brixton Online in 1997, and is on the board of FSTC, which runs the respected MuslimHeritage.com online community, and Involve, a new UK-based organisation exploring new forms of public participation.

Tareque Choudhury

Tareque Choudhury is the Technical Director of CyberGuard Corporations EMEA division. Previous to CyberGuard Tareque held positions with IBM Canada and AT&T. Tareque is also a guest lecturer at the University of Westminster where he lectures to masters students on Firewall and VPN architectures.
He holds a masters in Information Security and is a CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional). Tareque has been a speaker at the last three Infosecurity Europe shows where he has spoken on various topics covering honeypots, firewall architectures and Linux security.
