We have the pleasure of inviting you to attend the seminar entitled "Connected
Cities: The Art of the Possible", presented by Mr. Giles Norman (Wireless
Broadband and Sensing Solutions, EBO Business Development Manager, Emerging
Broadband Solutions).
Abstract: Governments are facing an increasingly challenging environment
in the form of rising costs and long-term budget pressures pitched against
the need to stimulate economic growth in their jurisdiction to help the territory
achieve its potential and an increase in concerns around citizen well-being
and security.
Wireless broadband networks enable cities and municipalities to offer cost-effective,
innovative services to citizens that help solve some of these real problems
like citizen security, road congestion and sustained economic development.
This session will explore some examples of how a connected city can leverage
this technology today, such as applications for emergency services, intelligent
traffic management and citizen information and also where future solutions
might add further value. Also examined are some of the changes, unrelated
to technology, that are brought about by broadband adoption, in particular,
those around the culture and the skills required to survive in the new "always
on" era.
The session will be presented by Giles Norman, Business Development Manager
for Emerging Broadband Solutions from IBM's Wireless Broadband and Sensing
Solutions Team.
Pre-registration is advisable. Please contact Dr. Luminita Vasiu (vasiul@wmin.ac.uk)
with your name and organisation.
